School’s Out - Get Active this Summer!

Hello and welcome to our Summer 2018 blog series! Summer is quickly approaching, and we’re excited to host some awesome activities while kids are out of school. We call our summer events Get Active In Nature this Summer (GAINS) - all events are hosted outdoors in our local parks and green space.

Soccer (ages 6+)

What to wear: Clothes you can run in, socks and shoes, and shin guards

Location: Joe Dancer Park Field #6

Our 4th season of summer soccer kicks off on Monday June 18th @ 5:30 - 7:00 PM. Coach Julio is a longtime soccer coach and has volunteered his time and passion with us since 2015. Each Monday this summer he will lead players through warm up, drills, games, scrimmages, and cool downs in a true practice. Haven’t ever played soccer before? This might be a great time to start - all levels are welcome.

Run Club (ages 6+)

What to wear: Clothes you can run in, socks and shoes (no sandals, no bare feet)

Location: Discovery Meadows Park

Our 2nd season of summer run club kicks off on Thursday June 21st @ 5:15 - 6:30 PM. SNACK interns will lead runners and walkers through dynamic warm ups, walk/jog/run training, games, and cool down each week. This summer we are conditioning for a 5K (3.1 miles) that we’ll jog/run on our last day of practice in August.

Day Hikes (ages 6+, reserved for kids enrolled in SNACK nutrition education visits)

What to wear: Long pants, socks and shoes, hat

Location: Various, TBD

We are working on scheduling a couple of day hikes in the area as well - with a day of outdoor service scheduled for Friday, July 20th @ Miller Woods Conservation Area in McMinnville.
